Religious persecution; another reason religion is the worst invention ever.
Afghanistan was supposed to be the country that validated the war on terror. We routed the Taliban and installed Hamid Karzai as president and for what? Afghanistan's constitution reflects Shariah law - same as when the Taliban ruled. Under Shariah, conversion away from Islam is in fact punishable by death, women havelimited no rights, yada, yada, yada.
In a nutshell, we ousted an extremist fundamentalist government that hated us, brutalized it's people, and openly trained and supported terrorists, and replaced it with an extremist fundamentalist government that hates us a little less, brutalizes it's people a little less, and which has no chance of controlling the terrorists still using the country as a training and organizing ground. I guess this is a net victory for us; it seems like having people on the payroll is going to save this guy's life - is this what they mean by pyrrhic victory?
As the Dubai Ports deal demonstrated, the reality of our country's foreign policy doesn't jive very well with the propaganda used to sell it to American people. It's easy to exploit an unquestioning populace's patriotism and anger, not so easy to deliver a world that fits the ad campaign. Be All You Can Be - Except a Christian in Afghanistan.

He passed up on the 40 virgins waiting for him in heaven?? wtf? Am I the only one intrigued by Islam's concept of 40 virgins waiting for you in heaven thing? I consider myself open-minded and respectful, but that is a very conflicting message. If you can have 40 lovers/wives in heaven, why not on earth? Don't most religions frown up sexual pleasures like that? Do Islamic women get 40 male virgins? or does God just disregard Islamic women in heaven as well? where is the love big G?
Every religion has some form of nonsense. Too bad, humans could use positive spirituality free of religious bullshit.
Peace.
I thought it was 73 virgins - why you trying to short change the brother? The fact that women appear to get shafted (pardon the pun) jives perfectly well with the dogma here on Earth, but my question is, why would women see that as heaven? Do the virgins come out of thin air or were they virgins on earth? Do the families of the virgins get compensation? A dowry? Some goats?
yeah there is a religion for women...live on earth as a second class being, covered up in public, if you die a virgin, you go to heaven and get to serve as someone sex slave along with other virgins...
72, 40, whatever.....who even wants one in heaven. give me 3 good prostitutes and an unlimited supply of jack daniels. im afraid this cultural gap may be too great to bridge.
