The shooting victim has apparently had a heart attack. Anybody up to date on Texas manslaughter laws? Can we put Judge Judy on this. Law and order folks, where you at?

In Texas, he could be charged with criminally negligent homicide if homeboy dies. The wording of the statute is as follows:
'A person acts with criminal negligence, or is criminally negligent, with respect to circumstances surrounding his conduct or the result of his conduct when he ought to be aware of a substantial and unjustifiable risk that the circumstances exist or the result will occur. The risk must be of such a nature and degree that the failure to perceive it constitutes a gross deviation from the standard of care that an ordinary person would exercise under all the circumstances as viewed from the actor's standpoint.'
Something tells me, with a standard of "gross deviation from the standard of care," Cheney would get off faster than you can say "Chappaquiddik."
I just love the fact that the White House was joking about it like shooting a 78-year-old man was no big deal. I also love the fact that Cheney didn't even go to the hospital with the guy but chose to eat dinner with friends - though he was reported to be "concerned" during dinner. It's amazing how indifferent and above the law these guys act.
