- I thought the World Cup finale was great. I watched more Cup games this year than ever before and can see myself getting even more into the 2010 Cup - to be held in South Africa no less.
- It's a beautiful summer morning so why did I have random thoughts of winter on my way to work? Something to do with getting older I think.
- My VOIP home phone is down. If you've left me a voicemail at home in the last two weeks and I haven't gotten back to you, my bad. To those who I've recommended VOIP fret not, the service works fine, my "gizmo" is malfunctioning and I haven't had time to call SunRocket. I should have a new gizmo in a few days and be back up and running. In the meanwhile, hit me on the cell.
- Anyone have thoughts on last night's new episode of the Chappelle Show? I think I need to see it again b/c I didn't find it all that funny and somehow I don't think that's right.
- Not expecting any tears from you all but my run of banking with perks that started when I was a law firm associate has finally come to an end and it sucks. When I got out of law school I was hooked up with a private banking account at Citibank as a benefit of being a firm associate. Basically, the best services and interest rates available without any monthly fees or min. balances. When I left firm practice in 2001 I thought I'd be cut off but somehow I stayed under the radar. Until now. Now, Citibank is charging me hella fees. Time to change banks. Anybody want to recommend a no-fee bank that doesn't require min. balances?
- Home Run Derby tonight. Watch steroid-free* players hit moon shots.

Good Morning

it was really pathetic that ESPN news led their news with the results of the hot dog eating contest rather than WC. it is so embarrasing. yeah it was aight--too many yellow/red cards in the earlier rounds but i am glad for Italy. will futbol ever catch on in the US? nope. even if our team kicked ass the majority of people would not care. that's ok. i don't need the masses to watch for me to enjoy. Here is how i rank my favorite sports:
1--NFL (no one even comes close..heck I'll even watch CFL),
2--NCAA Football
3--NBA
4--MLB
5--Boxing--Martial arts etc.
6--EPL (English Premier League)/FIFA Soccer
7--NCAA Basketball (mostly just March Madness)
8--MotorSports (F1, Indy, Nascar, IRL, Motorcycle racing--i know these things are not really sports but i like fast cars/bikes!)
9--Rugby
10--track & field
11--powerlifting
12--Tennis
13--Swimming
14--Golf (but only if Tiger woods is in it...stick it to the man Tiger!)
15--Strongest Man competition
I can't get into any contest that has subjective scoring (X-Games, diving, gymnastics, figure skating etc) while it might be enjoyable to watch; also NHL hockey and bowling are just things i can't watch for too long.
damn...i missed chappelle.
Big D - take a look at Washington Mutual - I bank with them and am pretty sure they're no fee/no minimum balance with free online banking. If I'm wrong about this, it's because my wife does most of the banking admin stuff. Whatever you do, avoid the mess that is North Fork.
Happy you enjoyed the WC. As a (relatively) long time supporter of Italian soccer, suffering through a gutsy, but far from dominating performance, ready for the stomach punch that seemed inevitable given the second half play of the more fluid French was expected although the PK outcome was not. Rapture? Not quite. Relief was more like it, especially being able to eat again, my stomach slowly unknotted after the final kick. ABC gets the finger for showing a video highlight montage to the tune of U2 instead of the lifting of the World Cup trophy; perhaps the climax of this and any World Cup tournament. I'm just happy there was an alternative in Univision.
What is it about American coverage of sports and the cheesy "One Shining Moment" BS montage at the end of everything?
Yo Rob131: how can you put golf ahead of hockey? If golf were to mutate into a combination of track & field, hockey, and/or obstacle course with players (they'd be athletes instead of just golfers) having to run from hole to hole while carrying their own clubs, I'd tune in. Until then it remains as unwatchable as multiple hour motor sports. The NFL does rule, though.
How long til FFL?
i was just thinking about how sad I felt after watching Chappelle last night. I kept on waiting for Carlos Mencia to run up to the camera and yell, "y'all were punked" or something to that effect to make up for the lack of humor. I even watched the encore presentation and promptly concluded that I must be too sober to understand.
I have to agree the coverage WC got on ABC and ESPN was shitty. i also watched some on Univision simply cause i could not stand the american commentators.
as for your question, once hockey bars fighting then I will put it on my list. it is just silly otherwise.
FFL--too far from now but what happened to our mock draft? i was waiting for you phone in your picks. oh well, i got everyone. hehe...see you at next week's mock draft! hahaah...that's when you know you have a problem. hey maybe we should start bugging Big-D with league suggestions and improvements...oh he loves that!
damn..was chappelle that bad? i have to see it. i think these the episode they filmed before he took his break...it could be that he was so burnt out that all he could muster was junk. oh well.
Top sports I enjoy watching:
1. Football
2. Playoff NBA
3. Boxing (when it isn't fixed)
4. Baseball
5. NCAA Basketball Tournament
6. NCAA Football Bowl Games
7. Grand Slam Tennis
8. World Championship track & field
9. X-Type sports
10. Grand Slam Golf
I like X-Games too but I don't consider any contest involving judging to be a sport...that's subjective and winning in sports should not be subjective...except for boxing/martial arts--when it is not fixed :-)
hey what the hell is grand slam golf?
I think Grand Slam golf is major championship golf - like the Masters, US Open, etc. I still can't believe golf is on both of your lists. It's like watching paint f*&$ing dry.
Just for the hell of it, and without giving it too much thought, here is my list:
1. NFL
2. World Cup/Champions League soccer
3. NCAA Basketball Tourney
4. NBA Playoffs and Finals
4.5 Every fourth NCAA Football Championship game
5. Playoff Baseball
5.5 Steroid Baseball
6. Championship track & field
7. Boxing (whether it's fixed or not)
8. Tennis when Serena Williams is involved
5.5 steroid baseball and any tennis with Serena...that's fucking funny.
GO TIGER WOODS! haha
My top 10 sports to watch:
1. Boxing (of course)
2. NFL Football
3. NBA Basketball
4. Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments (esp. if Serena or Sharapova are playing)
5. NCAA Football (mostly if Penn State is in the mix)
6. MMA - I differentiate this from Boxing just like Arena Football is not the NFL.
7. MLB
8. Women's Pro Beach Volleyball
9. Olympic Competition (doesn't much matter which ones - except synchronized swimming and ice dancing and all of those made for women sports that they've pimped to pump up the ratings.)
10. World Cup Soccer (some UEFA Cup stuff and EPL)
I will watch the NHL playoffs on occasion. Auto Racing and Golf I just can't deal with. The only reason I used to put up with them was because they were on right before the Boxing on weekends but now none of the major networks have weekend fights so I choose not to watch either Golf or Auto Racing. I don't mind following the Tour de France on the internet but it's not exactly riveting to watch as a spectator sport. College Basketball sucks now because all the good kids go to the NBA early.
