Stanley Crouch, irritable jazz expert and columnist at the Daily News writes:
Even Penn & Teller on their Showtime series Bullshit were able to breakdown how stupid the criminalization of soft drugs is. But jails need fillin' ..."In the ongoing battle over the legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes, the Food and Drug Administration has now shown that ideology can bend almost anything to its will. Last week, the FDA claimed that "no sound scientific studies" supported the medical use of the drug - flatly contradicting a 1999 review by the Institute of Medicine. That seems strange, given that the Institute is part of the National Academy of Sciences, the nation's most prestigious scientific advisory agency. "

When the movie Traffic came out, I figured a successful movie like that would help push the debate. but with the recent FDA ruling it just seems like we will never wake up from this foolish war on drugs. perhaps the american public is just to stupid to handle more than one issue at a time e.g War on Iraq, or Immigration or better yet American Idol.
if prohibition failed before, why would it succeed now?
The sad part here is that science is being trumped, potential medicines unused because of the misplaced morality of a few. It's not surprsing though, think of all the places that still have blue laws.
figures them damn Mexicans would throw a monkey wrench into the War on Drugs.
Is this a policy to increase tourism and immigration to Mexico?
hey just think of it..in a few years the US will still be the only country with its head up its ass with respect to drugs!
